Boniface in contention for Bundesliga’s September Goal of the Month
Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface is one of ten Bundesliga players in contention for September’s Goal of the Month honour.
Boniface following yet another blistering form in the colours of Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the month under review has been nominated alongside nine other players.
Also in contention are Xavi Simons’s stunning drive against Union Berlin, Julian Brandt’s volley against Heidenheim and Benjamin Šeško’s sweeping header against Union.
Others are Serhou Guirassy’s lovely flick and header against Mainz, Florian Grillitsch’s sensational strike from his own half against Cologne and Alejandro Grimaldo’s perfect free-kick against Bayern Munich.
Also nominated are Maximilian Beier’s net-busting drive against Cologne, Julian Ryerson’s remarkable solo effort against Hoffenheim and Jan-Niklas Beste’s fantastic free-kick against Union.
The Bundesliga while making the announcement on its official website on Friday nominated Boniface’s mazy run and chip against Darmstadt for September’s Goal of the Month.
On that occasion precisely on September 3, Boniface scored in each half to help Leverkusen obliterate newly-promoted Darmstadt 5-1 in a Bundesliga encounter at the BayArena.
The Nigerian striker after being set up by Jeremie Frimpong opened the scoring with a superb solo effort on 21 minutes, slicing through the Darmstadt defence before elegantly chipping the ‘keeper.
Darmstadt equalised shortly after, Exequiel Palacios scored straight after half-time to make it 2-1 while Boniface got his brace with an assist from Florian Wirtz in the 61st minute.
Boniface thereafter went from scorer to provider with the 23-year-old setting up Jonas Hofmann to score the fourth goal for Leverkusen in the 67th minute of the German top-flight tie.
By netting a brace in that game, he joined former Borussia Dortmund stars, Erling Haaland and Paco Alcacer as the only three players to register six-goal contributions in their first three Bundesliga games.
